Obituary for Gwendolyn Marshall Clark (Marshall)

Gwendolyn Marshall Clark of Aberdeen, MD, beloved wife of the late Offie E. Clark II, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2014. She was 78.

Mrs. Clark was a professional educator and certified counselor and mediator in the Harford County Public Schools for over 30 years. She was well known and loved by her students and colleagues alike. Gwendolyn Clark was a passionate and dedicated advocate for children and improving their public school educational opportunities.

Mrs. Clark was born November 28, 1935 in Columbia, SC, the daughter of Henry T. and Vivian B. Marshall (deceased). She was the cherished mother of three children, Offie E. Clark III of Aberdeen, Gwendolyn O. Clark (Dwight Jackson) of Hyattsville and Constance V.C. Aguayo of Silver Spring; and doting grandmother of five grandchildren, Offie E. Clark IV, Vivian L.M. and Carlos M.C. Aguayo, Clark V. and Payne B. Jackson. Her siblings, Henry T. Marshall (Janice), Henri Etta Bynum, Marian Davis; nephew, David T. Marshall, and nieces, Jai-Shirelle Marshall and Angela Davis, survive her. Mrs. Clark was pre-deceased by her sister, Lorraine V. Marshall

Mrs. Clark received her diploma from Booker T. Washington High School and only three short years later, graduated from Benedict College in Columbia, SC with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. She went on to obtain her Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Towson University in Towson, MD and her National Certified Counselor (NCC) designation from the National Board of Certified Counselors, Inc.

Throughout her distinguished professional career and life of activism in Harford County, MD, Mrs. Clark was honored with innumerable accolades, awards and commendations for her significant contributions and dedication to the educational well being of countless young students.

Mrs. Clark retired from Harford County Public Schools as the Supervisor of Guidance for Harford County Maryland in 1997. A role she loved, over-seeing, connecting with and supporting more than 60 counselors throughout the county.

She and her husband enjoyed many active years of retirement with friends and family in Hilton Head, SC. An avid golfer, swimmer, beach comber and gardener, Mrs. Clark was well known for her prize rhodedendrons, azaleas and roses. She remained actively involved with the Episcopal Church and community service throughout her life and was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

A funeral and celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 114 N. Union Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD 21078.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Gwendolyn's name to St. John's Episcopal Church.
