Stories

Dear June and family,  We are so sorry to hear of Sam's passing.  He was always so patient with James, caring for him for a number of years.  I recall that he would always try to make things easier for his dad.  Whenever I visited, he would echo every story I shared, in part because James was a little hard of hearing.  I knew him as a kind and patient son who took care of his dad and looked out for him.  He was taken too soon.

He loved telling stories about "old" Havre de Grace and what it was like.  I recall once he told me a story of how he worked at a laundromat on Market Street in his youth when the town had some interesting characters.  There were some "working girls" who were nearby and they always had knife-pleated skirts to be cleaned.  He was supposed to charge a penny a  pleat for cleaning the skirts.  In the end just made up rather discounted prices rather than count each pleat.  I think those women liked him a lot.

He did love to look for music-related items at flea markets.  I recall many times in the summer seeing him leaving early on a Saturday to hit a special market.

We cannot attend the service but are thinking of you and your family.  May he live on in your hearts.
