Obituary for Robert William Janssen

Robert William Janssen, of Parkville, MD, passed away on September 8, 2018. He was 93.
Mr. Janssen was born in Baltimore, MD, to John H. Hanssen and Virginia Foard Janssen.
Mr. Janssen moved to Aldino, MD, in the late 1920’s, and attended the One Room School in Aldino. He then went to Churchville Elementary and graduated from Havre de Grace High School in 1941. After high school, he worked with his two uncles, William Baron and Charles Pusey, at the B&O Railroad and retired in 1986 from Chessie Railroad Systems.
Mr. Janssen was Membership Chair of National Railroad Historical Society and a member and historian of the Baltimore Streetcar Museum since the 1950’s. He enjoyed setting up and sharing his train gardens during Christmas. He was a life member and Historian of Level Volunteer Fire Company since 1956. He loved the railroad and in 1942 road all the trolleys in Baltimore City. From 1940-1950 he road every trolley in the United States and Canada. Mr. Janssen also loved Bluegrass music, amusement parks, attending parades, different hotels, and visiting cities with a population over 5000 people. He kept a daily diary of his travels.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018, from 10 AM until 11 AM, at Level Volunteer Fire Department, 3633 Level Village Road. Services will begin at 11. Interment will be held at Baker Cemetery.
