Obituary for Frederick R. "Fred" Gillotte Sr.

Frederick R. Gillotte, Sr., of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on June 6, 2018. He was 88. Mr. Gillotte was born in Havre de Grace, MD, to Frederick R. Gillotte and Dorothy Laye Hergenrother. He was the devoted husband of the late Betty Jay Gillotte, loving father of Fred R. Gillotte, Jr., and his wife Alison, of Havre de Grace, MD, Linda J. Packard and her husband Charlie, of Havre de Grace, MD, and Vicki Eller and her husband Grant of Peach Bottom, PA. He was the adored grandfather of Kelly Connors and his wife Rachel, Chad Packard and his wife Heather, and Megan Harris and her husband Dan, and great-grandfather of Kyle Connors and wife Louie Connors and Bailey Harris. He was the brother of Charles Gillotte and the late Dolores Schultz.
Mr. Gillotte graduated in 1948 from Lakeworth High School, then in 1949 graduated from Palm Beach Jr. College. In 1951 he was drafted to the Air Force with 10 of his closest friends and went through basic training in Greenville, S.C. He was then deployed with two of his friends in the Far East serving his time Japan. In 1954 he received his honorable discharge from the Air Force and returned to Havre de Grace. He then worked for various paint contractors until being hired at Aberdeen Proving Ground where he worked for 8 years as a journeyman painter. He then transferred to Perry Point VAMC as a journeyman painter for 5 years before being promoted to Supervisor of Painting for 16 years until his retirement in 1994. Mr. Gillotte was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the Izaac Walton League. He was an avid hunter and waterfowler. He also volunteered for Havre de Grace Little League for several years. He loved all sports and was an Ironbirds, Orioles and Ravens fan.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018, from 5-8 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held at Harford Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Charlie Packard, Grant Eller, Kelly Connors, Chad Packard, Kyle Connors, and Dan Harris. Mark Gorham will be an honorary pallbearer.
