Obituary for Noble Mentzer

J. Noble Mentzer, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on May 25, 2018. He was 90.
Mr. Mentzer was born in Elkton, MD, to John C. Mentzer and Clara L. Jones Mentzer. He was the devoted husband of the late Dorothy Anne Mentzer, loving father of Mark F. Mentzer and his wife Jackie, of Havre de Grace, MD, and Eileen Susan Smith and her husband Ronald of Bel Air, MD. He was the adored grandfather of Christopher Michael Mentzer and his wife Renee, Keri Elizabeth Cargo and her husband Brian, Emily Michelle Smith and Adam Keith Smith, and great-grandfather of Kenny Cargo, Caleb Richardson, Tommy Cargo, Hailey Mentzer, Lanie Mentzer, Kinsey Mentzer and Mattie Mentzer. He was the dear brother of William “Bill” Webster Mentzer, and the late James C. Mentzer, Ralph Andrew Mentzer, Roy D. Mentzer, Margaret Irene Mentzer Danner, Betty Anne Hutchison.
Mr. Mentzer retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground as a contract specialist. He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a very active member of Havre de Grace United Methodist Church since 1943. He was a member of Susquehanna Hose Company since 1954, where he served as President, Treasurer, House Committee Chairman, Lieutenant and Chaplain. He was also a member and Past Master of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Lodge 130 since 1984, the American Legion Post 47, VFW Post 8126, and Young At Heart. He was the 2017 Grand Marshall of The Havre de Grace Independence Day Parade. He coached Havre de Grace Little League and was a former Boy Scout Leader. Mr. Mentzer was a member and volunteer for the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum and was also a skilled decorative decoy carver. He volunteered monthly at the Perry Point VAMC for several years.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, from 5-8 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at 11:00 AM, at Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, 101 South Union Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD. Interment will be held at Angel Hill Cemetery.
