Marie Silver Coates, of Aberdeen, MD passed away at home surrounded by family, on March 20 2018. The daughter of the late Frank Harper Silver and Marie Maslin Silver, she was born and raised in Havre de Grace MD. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Arthur D. Coates, and sons Arthur D. Coates, Jr. (Lindsay) of Bel Air, Randolph S. Coates (Laurel) of Havre de Grace, and finally Stephen T. Coates, PhD of Aberdeen, who lovingly cared for her in the final years of her life. Marie was the very loving grandmother of Kristin M. Carr (Jesse) of Bel Air, Matthew D. Coates (Erin) of Washington DC, Taylor M. Coates of Bel Air, Caroline P. Coates Esq., of Washington DC, Andrew S. Coates (Kate) of Laurel MD, Rebecca A. Coates of Baltimore MD, and Katherine E. Coates of Towson MD. She also is survived by her nieces Susan Leithiser and Jocelyn Silver, and nephews Frank V. Silver (Mary) and George W. (Wesley) Bobberts (Christina). She was pre-deceased by her brother Frank H. Silver Jr. and sisters Nancy W. Silver and Ann S. Bobberts. Known to many as “Dear-Dear” or “Did”, Marie was a graduate of Havre de Grace High School and attended the Maryland Institute in Baltimore. She was employed at the Citizens Bank and as a supervisor at the US Army Intelligence Office at Aberdeen Proving Ground. She became a stay-at-home Mother to her three sons, and later to her nephew Wesley. She poured out an unending supply of love, inspiration, patience, and strength to the everlasting benefit of her entire family. Marie joined her husband as a member of Grace United Methodist of Aberdeen in 1957 and at times sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and served as a member of the Altar Guild. Visitation will be held at the Zellman Funeral Home, P.A. , 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD, on Friday, March 23rd between the hours of 2 to 4PM and again between the hours of 6 to 8PM. On Saturday March 24th there will be an additional visitation at 1PM at the Grace United Methodist Church, 110 West Bel Air Avenue, Aberdeen, which will be followed by a celebration of life service at 2PM. Interment will follow at Baker Cemetery in the 3600 block Churchville Rd. Pallbearers will be her sons, Arthur D. Coates Jr., Randolph S. Coates, and Stephen T. Coates, PhD, grandsons Matthew D. Coates, Andrew S. Coates, and Taylor M. Coates, and nephews Frank V. Silver and George W. Bobberts. The Honorary Pallbearers are her granddaughters, Kristin M. Carr, Caroline P. Coates Esq., Rebecca A. Coates, and Katherine E. Coates and her nieces Susan Leithiser and Jocelyn Silver.
