The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Herbert Ham can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Father in law

To my father in law whom I called Dad,

Thank you for accepting me as part of your family.  We made some great memories while you were here with us.  You never complained and you were always thankful.  We had a fun time taking you to the Dunes that you would mention to others that they needed to see.  And how you lit up and enjoyed the Brookfield Zoo.  Then there was Mackinac Island when you told us you never went miniature golfing and on the first hole you get a hole-in-one.  From our travels to just being our guest you were always appreciative and thankful.

I’ll never forget when making a meal and asking you if you wanted more and you said no.  We replied that’s good cause there isn’t anymore.  We all laughed and this became our joke from thereafter.

Though it is hard to see you gone we are so happy that you are free from the terrible disease of dementia.  So, I leave you with this poem by Ron Tramer, titled Broken Chain.

We little knew that morning, that God was going to call your name.

In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone;

for part of us went with you, the day God called you home.

You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide;

And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same;

But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

We love you, Dad.
