Obituary for Nelson P. Rembold

Nelson P. Rembold, age 74, a lifelong resident of Aberdeen, MD, passed peacefully at his home with Toni, his wife of 52 years and Niece Catherine Rembold Jackson of Coraopolis (Pittsburgh) PA., by Nelson’s special request, at his side.

Born at Harford Memorial Hospital, Havre de Grace, MD., on March 27, 1943, he was the son of the late Augustus and Clara Pearce Rembold. He was the fifth child of eight (8) in the family, five (5) boys and three (3) girls. Two sisters predeceased him, Mary Ruth Rembold Burgoyne age 76 and Dorothy Helen Rembold Kilby age 33.
Surviving siblings are Edward A. Rembold, Aberdeen, MD, Arend A. Rembold, Elkton, MD, Aubrey E. Rembold, Little Elm (Dallas), TX, Genevieve Rembold Zebroski, Woodbury, PA. and Paul L. Rembold, Belcamp, MD and a brother-in-law William H. Francis II, New Alexandria, PA.

Being a 1961 graduate of Aberdeen High School, he was soon employed by American Cyanamid and Cytec Companies in Havre de Grace, MD on 21 January 1962, resulting in 42 uninterrupted years of service, he retired on 1 January 2004.


On 7 May 1965, Nelson married Toni Francis who was the “Love of Nelson’s Life”, with them having celebrated 52 years of truly blissful married life, all of it as residents of Aberdeen, MD.

Nelson and Toni enjoyed traveling together visiting England, Ireland and Wales, plus going on cruises, watching movies, TV shows, hunting, fishing and crabbing Bush River and Chesapeake Bay. Additionally, bringing them immeasurable enjoyment is their super loving canine companions Abby, Clyde, Dani and Dolly, Dolly being Toni’s deceased mothers years long companion. Nelson, gleaned much strength from his love of his canine companions and they for him, a match made in Heaven, so-to-speak.

We, the family members, will be forever grateful to Dr. Venkata Parsa, Oncologist with the Kaufman Cancer Center, also personnel of The University of Maryland UCMC and Infusion Center, personnel at the registration center, blood center and Pre-Op at University of Maryland Harford Memorial Hospital for their professionalism and sacrifices during the many months of highly professional superbly loving care provided to Nelson. Additionally, without exception, during his many visits to Harford Memorial Hospital, the entire medical staff treated Nelson with respect and professional loving care, around the clock, for which we, the family, are ever so appreciative and thankful. .


Nelson being bedfast, required months of in-home treatment and care 24/7, which was provided so unselfishly and with much dedication, love and caring by spouse Toni, Niece Catherine Rembold Jackson, Tara Widmer, a neighbor who is like a daughter to Nelson and Toni and Medical Staff of Amedisys Hospice of Greater Chesapeake and Hospice Caregivers in the months, weeks and days leading to his passing. The Hospice in-home care personnel can best be described as "Nelson's Angels of Mercy".


Friends may call at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD, on Monday, July 24, from 11 AM until 12:00 PM. Funeral services will begin at noon at the funeral home. Interment will be at Spesutia Cemetery, Perryman.

Active Pallbearers will be Mike Rembold, Sr, David Smith, Calvin Gibson, Kevin McNamara, Justin Francis and Ryan Francis.

Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers Edward A. Rembold, Arend A. Rembold, Aubrey E. Rembold, Paul L. Rembold and brother-in-law William H. Francis, II.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent in Nelson's name to The Kaufman Cancer, University of Maryland, UC Medical Center, 500 Upper Chesapeake Dr, Bel Air, MD 21014, Amedisys Hospice of Greater Chesapeake, 107 Chesapeake Blvd, Suite 134, Elkton, MD21921, or The Silky Terrier Club Rescue, c/o Pat Schaedler, P.O. Box 5934, Playa del Rey, CA 90296, a favorite of Nelsons and his much loved Mother in Law Mary Francis, recently deceased.
