Obituary for Mervin Gordon Leffler

Mervin Gordon Leffler, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on March 28, 2017. He was 96.
Mr. Leffler was born in Havre de Grace, MD, to Mervin Jackson Leffler and Cornelia Kelly Leffler. He was the beloved husband of 68 years to Leola Pierce Leffler, loving father of Suzanne Albanese and her husband Raymond, of Conowingo, MD, Gordon A Leffler and his wife Suzanne, and Roger William Leffler and his wife Cynthia of Havre de Grace, MD. He was the grandfather of Jennifer Farrell of Centerville, Delaware, Michelle Leffler Otley of Dundalk, MD, Colleen Leffler Hawkins of Edgewood, MD, and Allistair Leffler of Havre de Grace, MD, and great-grandfather of Sydney Elise Farrell and Chase Kenyon Farrell of Centerville, DE, Ryan Alexander Hawkins, Lily Madison Hawkins and Luke Carson Hawkins of Edgewood, MD, Caden James Leffler of Aberdeen, MD, and Jacob Daniel Otley of Dundalk, MD. Mr. Leffler was the uncle of Judith Johnson Tegler of Williamsburg, VA, and the late Richard Johnson, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Leffler is a descendant of the Kelly and Leffler families who owned and operated Kelly Beverage Plant for many years in Havre de Grace, Kelly Restaurant on Warren Street, and a Dry Goods store on Franklin Street.
Mr. Leffler was the oldest living member of Havre de Grace Presbyterian Church, having joined at age 16. He held offices such as Deacon and Captain of the Usher Teller Team for 25 years. He was a Charter Member of the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum, NARFE, and AARP. Mr. Leffler worked at Glen Martin Airplane Factory in Middle River from July 1939 until October 1961, one year at the Sheet Metal Shop at Aberdeen Proving Ground, and worked from 1962-1964 at Boeing Helicopter Plant, where he worked on Chinook Helicopters, then from February 29, 1963 to March 1, 1964, he retired from the local U.S. Post Office after 23 years of service as a clerk.
Mr. Leffler’s favorite past-time before computers was entering contests, where he won a Hyundai Automobile, a Sea-Doo, and many T-shirts, hats and gift certificates. Mr. Leffler was a beloved husband, devoted father and a loving grandfather, who considered no sacrifice too great to make for his family. He was a gentle man and a gentleman. His presence will be missed more that words can express.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017, at 11:00 AM, at Angel Hill Cemetery. The Reverend Rick Link will officiate.
