Obituary for Richard L. Holly



Richard Lawrence Holly, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on February 28, 2017. He was 70.
Mr. Holly was born in Scranton, PA, to Lawrence Richard Holly and Laura Amelia Wilson Holly. He was the devoted husband of 40 years of Karen Fears Holly, loving father of Michelle Holly King, and adoring grandfather of Libby Jasmine King and Chloe Rebecca King. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Eleanor Fears and his dog, Ziva.

Mr. Holly attained his Master’s Degree in Education from Bloomsburg University of PA. He taught at Havre de Grace High School for 43 years, where he also coached tennis, softball, baseball and basketball. He was an avid gardener, and enjoyed being in the woods. He was also a huge fan of Seinfeld, the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens. Mr. Holly was a true patriot and loved supporting the U.S. Military and Veterans. He participated annually in Wreath’s Across America at Arlington National Cemetery. Mr. Holly loved being with his family and grandchildren. He was extremely active in anything that supported his town of Havre de Grace. He was a Treasure of Community Projects of Havre de Grace, a pillar of the Thanksgiving Day Committee which serves meals to local citizens, the Winter Wonderland Committee which provides the Christmas Decorations for downtown Havre de Grace, and was instrumental in the construction of the James R. Harris Stadium, and was also a member of the Citizen Against Trash Club in Havre de Grace. He often provided guidance and support for many other projects throughout town and promoted Warrior Pride.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 1-4 and 6-9 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017, at 11:00 AM, at Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, 101 South Union Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Community Projects of Havre de Grace, 224 North Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD, 21078.
