Obituary for Donald K. Tag Jr.

Donald K. Tag Jr.
Donald Kimball Tag, Jr., known as “Don” to some and “Kimmy” to others, age 73, of Havre de Grace, MD, died on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson, MD, after being diagnosed with metastatic cancer of the omentum in August 2015. This cancer from an unknown origin was discovered while being treated for pharyngeal cancer in June/July and the two were unrelated.
Born in Orange, New Jersey to the late Donald K. Tag and Doris E. (Fiacre) Tag, the family moved to Aberdeen, MD when he was eight years old. In 1961, he graduated from Aberdeen High School where he was on the Varsity Football team. Mr. Tag served in the U.S. Air Force for four years as Airman Basic and was overseas at the beginning of the Viet Nam era. Upon return, he worked in radio communications in Annapolis, MD, and then graduated from Harford Community College and the University of Baltimore. He worked for the State of Maryland Retirement System and then worked for the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn, where he retired after 30 years of service as an IT Specialist.
Mr. Tag had a keen interest in politics as a member of the Republican Party, and hoped to see anyone other than Hillary elected in the 2016 Presidential election. He enjoyed television game shows and once auditioned in New York for “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” Previously he enjoyed bowling, golfing, building and flying radio-controlled airplanes, building clocks, woodworking, refinishing furniture, and photography. He enjoyed reading, listening to the Rush Limbaugh IHeart Radio, Fox News, PBS, Classic Cars, and watching old movies. He enjoyed following the Ravens and the Orioles. He had a wealth of knowledge, which created many interesting and often controversial conversations. He was a supporter of the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Tag is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sharon G. Gandy of Havre de Grace, and his daughter, Kathryn Gandy (Tag) Sellner and her wife Alexandra. Kathryn, his pride and joy, is a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve, currently stationed at Fort Douglas, Utah. He is also survived by sisters Stephanie A. Hightman (Bramwell) of Chevy Chase, Jennifer L. Lee (Wayne) of Centreville, and brother David L. Tag (Angela Darnell) of Cambridge and Baltimore. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews and two grand dogs, Jersey and Gunny, and also by David and Cherie Gandy, Vero Beach, FL, and Amy (Gandy) and Dr. Chester Lapeza, Cordele, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016, at 1:00 pm, at the Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, 101 South Union Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD 21078, officiated by Pastor Norman Obenshain. Private interment will be at a later date.
