Obituary for Alva Pritchett Flowers

Alva Pritchett Flowers, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on May 21, 2015.
She was 85 years old. Born in Fishing Creek, Hooper’s Island in Dorchester County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Donald Pritchett and Lottie Creighton Pritchett. She was the devoted wife of the late William B. Flowers, loving mother of Melanie D. Cain and her husband, David, of Flowery Branch, GA, Mitzi F. Wall and her husband, Jon, of Havre de Grace, MD, and Marti F. Trainor and her husband, Robert, of Colora, MD. She was the adored grandmother of Matthew Trainor, Julia Trainor, Stephanie Berl, Joanna Howell, Jonathan Wall, and Emma Wall, and great-grandmother of Isaac Berl, Seth Berl, and Lillian Berl.

Alva was a graduate of Hooper’s Island High School and she received her Bachelor’s Degree from the State Teacher’s College at Salisbury. She received her Master’s Degree from the University of Delaware. She taught elementary school for over 30 years in the Harford County Public School System. She was a member of the Hosier Memorial United Methodist Church, Fishing Creek, Maryland. She enjoyed nothing more than traveling with her family and friends. She will be remembered as an educator to multiple generations of Havre de Grace families, but most importantly, as the most generous and devoted mother and grandmother.

A service will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2015, at 2:00 PM, at Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, 101 South Union Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD. Pastor Norman Obenshain will officiate. The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in her memory to Hooper’s Island Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 125, Fishing Creek, MD 21634 or Hosier Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 296, Fishing Creek, MD 21634.
