Gussie Irene Vancherie




Gussie Irene Vancherie, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on July 1, 2013. She was 88.

Mrs. Vancherie was born in Alabama, to the late Calvin B. Goodman and the late Sadie M. Farmer Goodman. She was the devoted wife of 69 years to James Carroll Vancherie, Jr., loving mother of James Carroll Vancherie, III, Jesse Calvin Vancherie and wife Deborah, Nannette DeLuca Martin and husband Samuel and Constance Ann Vancherie. She was the adored grandmother of Tamara Lynn Derrickson, Denise DeLuca, Anthony DeLuca, Angela Vancherie and Jesse Vancherie. She was a loving great grandmother to Nicholas Hayes, Peyton Hayes, Dean Maida and Giana DeLuca.

She was predeceased by her parents, a grandson Vincent Vancherie, and two sisters Margaret Bell and Geraldine Kapinos.

Mrs. Vancherie graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1943. She was a school bus operator. She also owned and enjoyed operating Vancherie’s Restaurant in Havre de Grace for 62 years.

Mrs. Vancherie loved playing bingo and looked forward to her monthly trips to Atlantic City. She was a loyal fan of the Baltimore Orioles.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 4, 2013 from 6-8 PM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 5, 2013, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Pastor Norman Obenshain
will officiate. Interment will be held at Angel Hill Cemetery, Havre de Grace, MD.
