Obituary for Maher Wahba Ishak Dr.

Dr. Maher W. Ishak


Dr. Maher W. Ishak, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2010. He was 76.

He was born in Cairo, Egypt to the late Wahba Ishak and Amelia Awad. He was the loving husband of 49 years of Virginia Louise Ishak. He was the devoted father of Andrew W. Ishak and his wife Robin, and Paul W. Ishak and his wife April, of Havre de Grace, and Robert J. Ishak and his wife Suzanne, of Forest Hill, MD. He was the adored grandfather of nine grandchildren. He was the brother of Emile of Melbourne, FL, Nabil, Violette and Cecile of Cairo, Egypt, and Nadia of Dover, DE.

Dr. Ishak graduated from the Cairo University of Medicine. After his studies, he came to the United States in 1959. He was a general surgeon for Perry Point VAMC and Harford Memorial Hospital. He also worked as a consultant for PPVAMC. Throughout his career, he held many positions in the medical community. He was a member of the Federation of the American College of Surgeons, Maryland Physicians Peer Review, the Medical Society of Harford County, Med- Chi, and was former Chief of Staff and President of Harford Memorial Hospital. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, crabbing, and boating. He loved to spend time in the outdoors. After his retirement in 1996, he enjoyed tending his farm in Delaware. He was also a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 18, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington St. Havre de Grace, MD. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Friday, November 19, at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 615 Congress Avenue, Havre de Grace, Maryland. Father William J. O’Brien will officiate. Interment will be held at Harford Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Paul, Andrew, Robert, and Eric Ishak, Mike Imbierowicz and Donald Wooten.
